Guest Readers and a little "Oh, Snap"

We had all kinds of guest readers this week. I had two children Leighanne and Hailey who had prize rewards to use and we had the special treat of listening to our "All About Me's" favorite stories from her mom!!

I LOVE that the kids choose this for a prize and they always do such a great job!!

Here is Mrs. Silverstone getting ready to read. She did a wonderful job... I think she could be a teacher if she wasn't so good at what she already does!! The kids were all curious to know if she was the nurse when they were born. I hope she's there the day that baby girl comes, because she was just wonderful when we checked in for Luke. In fact, all the nurses at OSF were fantastic!!

We learned a new math game this week called "Oh, Snap!". Thanks to our kindergarten teacher Mrs. Miron for having all the decks of cards we needed. In order to play, remove all the face cards from the deck except for the Ace. The Ace will represent the number 1. Deal out the cards like you are going to play war. The difference is that when you each flip up a card, you have to subtract the smaller number from the larger number. The winner keeps the cards (the one who says it faster or correctly) and play continues until one of you is out of cards. They really enjoyed this game! It was SUPER funny when the first pair flipped the same number and they weren't sure what to do... they of course are used to the war procedure. I just said, "Well what's 2 minus 2." I got a total deer in the headlights look and then it clicked! :)

In hindsight, playing a game where kids naturally want to shout out the answer was probably not the best idea while parents were coming in for the Christmas program. I can only imagine what some thought was happening in my room... well now you know: all kinds of learning fun!!
