I think it is possible to have a functional, but stylish home... even with a toddler, a cat, and two dogs. Here's how it's done in our entryway. As a side note, my husband and I would really like to redo the flooring, so don't pay attention to that!!
I like the mirrors I found at Walmart-boutique. I think I paid $35 at the time. I'm not even sure if you can get this anymore. The play of light really brightens the little area!
Since it's summer, our front door is usually open to let in some fresh and light. I got the wreath at Jo-Ann fabrics last spring. Also, I love a bright red front door, especially on our gray house. Like Luke's photo bomb? He climbs on that little ottoman all the time!! Lately, he looks at himself in the mirror and waves.
Just the door... this baby was light blue and all scratched up. A little paint and there you go, good as new!
This is a collage on the wall with the door. Look at my darling boy!!
This little wall of leaning shelves greets you when you walk in. I like to change it out seasonally. For now we have original artwork, by Luke Chernick, and framed to show it off. There is also a neat Hallmark handprint frame that we made around Mother's Day (and will go back to my classroom) and a fish painting that Justin did for Luke. Notice I have no artwork... Luke did not get it from me! :)
Here's a closer look at the mirrors I also hang some of Luke's artwork on it with a magnet. I think it just looks cheery!
Here's my discount ottoman, guess how much I paid?? Target clearance... $14.99!!! I know, I couldn't pass it up and it gives us a nice spot to throw stuff or sit and put on our shoes.
I have a flare for unique things... this cool basket came from TJMaxx and holds all of our winter stuff. If you lifted the lid you'd still see an assortment of hats, gloves, and scarves.
Just got this new rug from Kmart and with my $10 coupon, I only paid $7!!
So, welcome to our home. If you have a good eye for a deal and can visualize what you want, you can find stylish things on a budget that will make your house look well thought-out and put together! I also try to find things that will multi-task, for example, baskets that offer stylish storage. Ideally the ottoman would've been the storage type too!
