Running low!!

Not only am I running low on energy, but we are also low on some supplies. I guess I am really low on pictures this week too! I meant to take a picture of our giant turkey we made, but forgot as I was leaving. You'll see it next week! 

We are totally out of glue sticks again! We are also completely out of crayons. I like to have the eight packs separated by color so if they lose a red, it's right there for them!

The only picture I took this week is of Noah using his "Read a Book to the Class" prize. I think these short weeks are as hard on me as they are on the kids. I feel like I'm running with my hair on fire to squeeze everything in! :) I can't wait to get back to full weeks in a row after Thanksgiving. Not that I won't enjoy the extra snuggle tomorrow morning from Luke!

We started off the week with a special treat from Wyatt's family. I knew it was going to be a good one!!

We sorted complete and incomplete sentences, looking to see if they had a noun (who or what) and verb (action word).

We have also been practicing our "Read to Someone" stamina for the Daily 5. We learned to sit EEKK (elbow, elbow, knee, knee) and whisper. We did it for 10 successful minutes today!!

As someone who is nearly 4 months pregnant and still battling with constant nausea, let me tell you seeing the picking doesn't help. I gag each morning brushing my teeth, my stomach does a big ole' flip when they bring their hands to their mouth!! YUCK!! I simply say, get a kleenex and hand sanitizer, so they are busted but not embarrassed hopefully.

The poor lunchroom teachers tell me each day that our class is the worst behaved. This does not make their dear teacher very happy. In fact, for the last few days all my students lost a point for fooling around and clipped down just from lunch. We are going to keep encouraging and practicing, but when Mrs. Lind blows the whistle at them and they are so loud that they don't hear her. That's a bit of a problem. 

I am going to make a chart, like the one pictured above for us to review each day until we have it. Please discuss table manners with your child. We see yelling, leaving messes, kids wandering, and talking in such loud voices that I can hear the conversations in my classroom! If your child says they are behaving, that's fantastic... unless of course they are telling tales :) If you know your kiddo has the expectations down ask them to remind their friends to be respectful as well.

We have had a much better week in the classroom. I have moved some desks around again for the fourth time. I tell them that there are only so many ways to do it and they have to have a little self control, too. All in all it has started out to be a great week. I hope the more I can encourage those positive behaviors, the more they will catch on that it's a good feeling to do the right thing!

TGI Friday!!

The second week of school has been a bit exhausting! Several students are pushing the boundaries to see how far they can go, and not getting anywhere! It has been a long week for me and my darlings who are always following directions. It's no fun having to wait for me to talk someone into complying with the rules. Hopefully, with some consistency this will get better!

I think they did great!!

Look at the mess I call my lesson plans for this week. Because of having to stop frequently to correct behavior we missed a lot, see all those arrows!! We'll try to get to more next week! Please discuss your child's behavior with them at home. Encourage them to be great listeners! So far this morning has been better, but I REALLY don't like sounding cranky, which happened quite a bit last week. It's not fun for anybody :)

Dear 1st grade parents,

This week positively flew!! My 3 year old is already home with a fever today. I hope your children can stay healthy with all this new exposure. :) We do get our desks cleaned once a day which helps! Thanks, Mrs. Chenier.

Our lunch is very late this year at 12:10. Each morning I give the students a little break in the room to have a snack. Many students are hungry and don't have any food. Please consider buying something that would be easy for your child to keep in their backpack, like cracker packages, then you would only have to pack it up once a week!

Each of you received a behavior report today from Class Dojo. If you sign that report and send it back with your child on Monday, I will give them a point! Speaking of points we had several students earn prizes this week. The choices for earning 10 or more points were: Bring a stuffed animal to school, No Homework Pass, Read a book to the class, and Positive Note Home. I was so proud. They were definitely following rule #5 Make your dear teacher happy!

I didn't put too many student pictures on the blog this week. I have to wait until I get your permission, so if you haven't checked and signed the small orange student handbook, please do so and send in the tear out sheet. I also did not get back all of the emergency forms. Many times there is a change in phone numbers for yourself or emergency contacts. Please update them and send them back. If your child is sick at school we will need to be able to reach someone!!

Homework starts this week, please look at your calendar!

I added a Scholastic Book Club tab at the top of this blog. It will give you instructions if you are interested in purchasing books online. The deadline is Sept. 30th.

If you have read this whole thing and want to give your child another easy point have them say the word spaghetti to me on Monday and I will add another point to their total. I hope you all have a great weekend!! I am going to snuggle my little guy until the yuckies go away!
