Made my heart grow...

Sometimes our little ones do something so over the top sweet that you can't help but smile the whole rest of the day! The task was to draw a comic strip in their writing journal today. I heard a bunch of crickets chirping, because comics are apparently a lost media. So, I asked them to draw their favorite character, hero, princess, etc. This is what one of my darlings did:

In case you can't read it, it says:

My superhero is my dad. 

(He even added muscles.)

I thought that was one of the sweetest things I've seen all week! :) 

Pen Pal Stationary

I'm always on a quest to find cute stationary for our letter writing to our pen pals at Lemmer. Look the great website I came across!!

Writing a Recipe

We've been learning the options for our Daily 5 choice "Work on Writing". Today we made up a recipe together... the kids didn't add all of the ingredients together or cook it. I love how their minds work! :)

Summer Pen Pals

Every year I fall in love with my first graders and miss them over the summer. It's hard to spend everyday with a child watching them grow and learning their fun personality and then... that's it, the year's over, maybe we'll see each other at Walmart! :) So to help us stay in touch I give each child a piece of stationary and a stamped envelope with my address. I tell them it's my special gift to them because I want to know all the amazing things they are doing over the summer. I usually get 5-10 back depending on the year. Still, it's really fun for me to get their letters and drawings (just like they made me during the year) and to write back what I have been up to. When I see them next fall, I can be really specific when I ask them about their summer. How was Florida, did you have lots of sleepovers, etc. I just love the sweet drawing my darling Rylan did for me... now I better get off this computer so I can write her back!!
